WBB: Cascades finish homestand with win over Brandon

Abbotsford, BC – The UFV Cascades picked up their second victory in two nights over the Brandon University Bobcats with a 101-47 win on Saturday night at the UFV Athletic Centre.

With the win, the Cascades improve to 13-3, while the Bobcats drop to  1-17 on the year.

How it Happened
The Cascades opened the game on a 9-0 run, before the teams traded short runs for the remainder of the opening half, and UFV held a 44-33 lead at the break.

Maddy Gobeil started and ended another nine-point run at the start of the third quarter, and six-points from Esther Allison in the middle of the frame helped UFV extend their lead to 42 going into the fourth.

The Cascades cruised from there, holding the Bobcats to just 14 second half points, to finish the game with a 54-point margin.

Top performers:
Julia Tuchscherer finished the game with a team-high 19 points, four rebounds and seven boards for UFV, while Google Sidhu tallied 17 points and three rebounds. Maddy Gobeil finished with 16 points and four assists, while Esther Allison came up with 12 points and five rebounds in her first Canada West start. Fania Taylor chipped in seven rebounds and six assists to go with seven points in the win.

Reeta Tukki had 13 points to lead the Bobcats, while Emma Cameron added 10 points.

Quotable:
Cascades forward Esther Allison

"At halftime a big focus was our defence. We didn't want to give up any more open threes and just get after it on defence, and then from there transition it into offence. I think we did that pretty well. We were getting more hungry on the defensive side of the floor and then we pushed the ball and made good transition layups."

Up next:
The Cascades head on the road next weekend for a pair of games against the Mount Royal University Cougars on Friday and Saturday. The game can be seen live on canadawest.tv.
