WBB: Tuchscherer leads all scorers as Cascades pick up sweep in Kamloops

Kamloops, BC – Deanna Tuchscherer led all scorers with 18 points, as the USPORTS No. 8 ranked UFV Cascades completed the weekend sweep of the TRU WolfPack 86-36 on Saturday in Kamloops. With the win the Cascades improve to 9-1 this season, while the WolfPack falls to 2-6.

UFV was once again dominant in the paint, scoring 62 points down low. The Cascades also had strong contributions from the entire squad in this one, with 41 points coming off the bench and 11 players with at least a point in the game.

As it happened:
Esther Allison capped off a 14-3 run in the final six minutes of the first quarter to jump out to a 21-8 lead.

The Cascades continued to pour in on in the second, outscoring the hosts 19-3 in the first 6:22 of the frame. Maddy Gobeil led all scorers with 11 first half points, as the Cascades took a 42-19 lead into the break.

The WolfPack held the Cascades to just 13 points in the third quarter, but the high-powered UFV offence proved to be too much in the fourth outscoring TRU 31-9 in the final frame.

Top performers:
Deanna Tuchscherer added three rebounds and two assists to go with her 18 points for UFV, while Maddy Gobeil and Marijke Duralia each had 14 points. Julia Tuchscherer finished the game one rebound short of a double-double with 11 points and nine boards.

Olivia Randall led the way for TRU with eight points, while Jocelyn Orr had seven, and Sydney Vollrath and Tia Rowell each had six.

Quotable:
Cascades head coach Al Tuchscherer

"We weren't overly thrilled with how we were defending in the first half of the season, and we really used December to work on some things there and tighten up our defence. It's going to get harder in the next few weeks, but I liked what I saw this weekend."

"One of the strengths of our team this year is our depth. Esther, Fania, Marijke, Charley, Kyla, they really worked hard at their game because they want to contribute, and it's great to see them doing that now."

Up next:
The Cascades head to Lethbridge for a pair of games against the Pronghorns next weekend. Game times are set for 5 p.m. on Friday, and 4 p.m. on Saturday, live on canadawest.tv.
