Maddy Gobeil set a new program high mark for steals on Friday, but the UFV Cascades started slow, as they dropped a 70-62 decision to the Trinity Western University Spartans in Langley. The loss sees the Cascades fall to 6-3, while TWU improves to 5-4 with the win.
How it Happened:
Trinity Western led UFV 24-14 at the end of the first quarter, 46-35 at halftime, and 61-50 after 30 minutes.
The Cascades started slow, falling behind 10-4 early on, before ending the opening quarter trailing 24-14.
UFV trailed by as many as 16 in the second quarter, but fought back to go into the half time break down by 11.
The Cascades cut the Spartans' lead to seven points, 54-47, to start the second half, but were unable to get closer in the third quarter as TWU matched UFV to retake an 11-point lead, 61-50, into the final 10 minutes before closing out the game for an eight-point win
Notable:
Julia Tuchscherer led the Cascades with 19 points and eight rebounds, while
Maddy Gobeil had 15 points and six rebounds, and
Esther Allison had 10 points, and four boards.

Maddy Gobeil picked up her 198
th career Canada West regular season steal to set a new program record, breaking the previous mark of 197 from Kayli Sartori.
Cassady Buchanan had 12 points and five assists for TWU on the night, while Savannah Vander Kooi had 12 points and seven rebounds.

The Cascades now have a quick turnaround, as they head to Kelowna tomorrow for a matchup with the UBC Okanagan Heat at 4pm to close out their 2024 slate of games.
