A pair of
Brady Renneberg homeruns, including an eighth inning grand slam, helped power the UFV Cascades to an 11-0 victory over the Calgary Dinos in their first postseason game on Thursday.
Mason Chien pitched six scoreless innings, allowing only nine hits for UFV, while
Kai Fyke completed the shutout for the Cascades while striking out two.
The Cascades got on the board early with
Nick Holdershaw bringing home Anthony Settcasi in the first, before an error allowed
Tyson Christie to score with
Thomas Richards at the plate. A sacrifice fly in the second inning from
Max Prevost scored
Eli McKeen from third to make it 3-0.
It was low event baseball for much of the next four innings, but UFV struck again in the bottom of the seventh. After a balk put a pair of UFV runners in scoring position, Christie hit a double up the first base line to score both. Two pitches later Renneberg put it over the right field wall to make the score 7-0.
After taking care of business in the top of the eighth, the Cascades would seal it. With the bases loaded for Renneberg, he took another one deep to right field for the grand slam and the 11-0 victory.
Renneberg finished the game with six RBIs, four hits, and two homeruns on five at bats. Christie and
Anthony Setticasi each got on base four times and scored three times in the win.
