Calgary, AB - The UFV Cascades women's basketball team came up just short on Saturday, as they dropped a 63-53 result in a battle of the defences to the Calgary Dinos. 

The result sees UFV go to 2-5 on the season, while Calgary improves to 6-0 at the top of the prairie division. 

How it happened:
The Cascades were held without a field goal through the first 6:15 of the game, but a Kyanna Knodel three pointer would get them started. Triples from Bernie Leda and Fania Taylor pulled UFV within one late in the frame, but Calgary answered with back-to-back buckets from Kourtney Oss and Milica Gajic to lead 19-14.

Defences continued to be strong in the second quarter, with both teams forced into tough shots, but a pair of Taylor triples in the final minute helped UFV outpace the Dinos 19-14 in the frame and tie the game up at halftime.

UFV shot just 31.3 (10 of 32) from the field In the first half, but hit seven three pointers and shot six of eight from the charity stripe. Meanwhile, UFV's defence held Calgary to just 40.6 percent from the field in the half. Taylor led all scorers with 15 points at the break. 

Calgary built a six-point lead halfway through the third after a pair of Lillia Skumatova free throws. Taylor would hit a layup as the quarter ended to leave UFV down four going into the fourth.

 The Dinos opened the fourth on a 10-2 run and would hold on from there for the 63-53 win. 

Notable:
UFV's Taylor led all scorers with 21 points on the night, while Leda added 10, and Knodel chipped in nine and seven rebounds. 

Oss and Amelie Collin each finished the game with 11 points and six rebounds for Calgary, while Skumatova and Pollyanna Storie added 10 each.
