Steve Tuckwood, Director of Athletics and Campus Recreation moving on after 10 years at UFV

Since joining UFV in 2015, Tuckwood has played a key role in shaping the university's varsity athletics and recreation programs, supporting student-athletes, and fostering a strong UFV Cascades sports community.

Dr. Alisa Webb, UFV's Vice President, Students, noted that Tuckwood leaves UFV with a lasting legacy full of accomplishments that will ensure his impact will be felt for years to come.

"Under Steve's leadership, Volleyball moved from CCAA to USPORTS; ACR hosted its largest event to date – the 2024 Canada West Women's Basketball Championships; the ACR staff complement grew, with highlights including a permanent Strength and Conditioning Coach and dedicated event and department coordination positions; student engagement in Campus Recreation grew; ACR implemented XplorRecreation; and significant funds were raised through revenue generation activities, sponsorship agreements, and fundraising activities."

Tuckwood has helped guide the Cascades varsity programs into a period of growth and success, and he moves on after some of the most successful seasons for UFV at the top University level in the nation.

The past two seasons have seen each of the Cascades' soccer, basketball, and volleyball teams making conference post-season appearances, and Canada West medals have been earned by women's golf, men's golf, and women's basketball, amongst numerous other milestones.

"We appreciate Steve's many contributions to UFV and to ACR, and wish him the best as he moves on to a new adventure," Dr. Webb concluded.

The search for the new Director, ACR will get underway very soon. In the meantime, Alicia Hurley, Associate Director of Athletics and Campus Recreation, will take on the additional role of interim Director, ACR as of March 31.
