Tom Lowndes joined the Cascades men’s soccer program in 2013 to serve as an assistant coach under Alan Errington. With Errington retiring in 2015, Lowndes took the reins as interim head coach for one year, and in 2016, he took over the job on a permanent basis.

Lowndes found immediate success with the Cascades, guiding the squad to the Canada West Final Four and a conference bronze medal in 2015. The following season, the program set a new record for regular-season wins with eight. The team would return to the CW Final Four in 2018, finishing fourth.

Lowndes, who hails from Undy, Wales, is a former academy player for Bristol Rovers FC in England, and played varsity soccer in North America at Baker University (an NAIA program in Kansas) and Simon Fraser University (NCAA Div. II). He was a two-time all-conference honouree at Baker University and helped the Wildcats to the 2011 NAIA Final Four. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Baker.

At the conclusion of his university eligibility, Lowndes transitioned to the coaching ranks as an assistant with the Baker men’s and women’s teams, and helped guide the Wildcats women’s squad to the NAIA Sweet 16 in 2012.

Lowndes currently holds a CSA National B Coaching License, and in addition to his duties with the Cascades, he also coaches a pair of Surrey United youth teams in the B.C. Soccer Premier League – the 2001 girls and the 2003 boys. His 2001 girls team won the league and cup double in 2018, winning the provincial title and representing B.C. at the national championships. Fifteen players from that squad willl play at U SPORTS soccer programs in 2019.

Lowndes resides in Maple Ridge, B.C. with his wife Arianne and their son Hudson.
