Both the Cascades and Pandas come into this weekend looking to bounce back after suffering sweeps last week. UFV dropped a pair of games at U SPORTS No. 5 Saskatchewan Huskies, while Alberta lost both ends of a home-and-home series vs. their archrival Calgary Dinos.
Cascades head coach
Al Tuchscherer is looking for his squad to hit its stride offensively. Through two weeks of regular-season play, UFV is averaging 52.0 points per game, second-fewest in the league.
"After the Saskatchewan weekend, I think we really need to get back to simplifying the game and taking care of some of the fundamental details, particularly at the offensive end of the floor," Tuchscherer said. "We've been struggling to score so far, so the emphasis this week has been on finding that a little bit.
"Alberta's always a well-coached team, and they're always tough to play against. They're a physical team, and it's another great challenge for our squad."
Players to watch: Cascades sophomore forward
Katelyn Mallette returned to the lineup last weekend after missing the first two games of the campaign due to injury, and she made her presence felt. The 6'2" centre from Langley, B.C. posted eight points on 4-of-5 shooting from the field in her debut last Friday vs. Sask, and she followed with a team-high 10 points and six rebounds in Saturday's rematch. The Pandas' top scorer in the early going has been third-year guard
Emma Kary – she's averaging 15.8 points per game while shooting 50 per cent from the field.
