The Cascades women's basketball team is coming off an encouraging performance last weekend, which saw them earn a home-court sweep vs. a quality Lethbridge Pronghorns squad. They're riding a four-game win streak into Winnipeg this weekend as they face the Manitoba Bisons.

"It's always nice to beat good teams, so getting the sweep definitely gives us some momentum," UFV senior forward Taylor Claggett noted. "But we need to focus on ourselves and keep getting better week to week. We can't be satisfied with ourselves after last weekend. We have to keep wanting more."

The Bisons are looking to snap a four-game losing skid, coming off tough weekends vs. Lethbridge and their crosstown rival Winnipeg Wesmen.

"Manitoba is a better team than their record shows," Claggett asserted. "They have strong guard play, some girls who can really shoot the ball. It'll be pretty similar to last weekend that way. We'll focus on ball-screen defence and having each other's backs on the help side."

Players to watch: Fourth-year guard Amanda Thompson's scoring numbers (6.0 points per game) only hint at her importance to the Cascades. The Abbotsford-W.J. Mouat product is one of Canada West's elite defenders, and her skills were on full display last Saturday as she helped hold Lethbridge star Kacie Bosch to just five points, nine less than her season average. Thompson will be instrumental this weekend as the Cascades look to slow Manitoba's Taylor Randall. The fourth-year guard is averaging 19.0 points, fourth-best in Canada West, and is converting 32.7 per cent from beyond the arc on a conference-leading 8.2 attempts per game.
