Brad Hildenbrandt has netted another award – this time at the national level – in the wake of his outstanding performance at the Canada West Wrestling Championships.
The fourth-year Cascades team captain from Surrey, B.C.
won his third consecutive Canada West gold medal in the men's heavyweight (120 kg) division, and was subsequently voted the conference's male wrestler of the year, becoming the first Cascade to earn that honour.
On Tuesday, Hildenbrandt was the
named the Canada West men's first star of the week across all sports, and on Wednesday, he added the U SPORTS male athlete of the week award to the incredible list of accolades he's earned over the past five days.
Other conference nominees for the national athlete of the week award included the OUA's Matthew Loewen (swimming, Western), the RSEQ's Kevin Davis (basketball, Bishop's) and the AUS's Alex Karlsen (swimming, Dalhousie).
Hildenbrandt and 10 other Cascades who won individual medals at the CW championships are advancing to the U SPORTS national championships in Calgary, Feb. 22-23.
