THE MATCH-UP

Through two weekends, the Cascades sit atop the West Division standings with a 3-1 record, tied with the UNBC Timberwolves (with UFV owning the theoretical tiebreaker based on their 73-48 homecourt win over UNBC on Oct. 30). Lurking one game back in the win column is Trinity Western (2-0), coming off a bye week as the division's only undefeated team. The Cascades will be looking to solidify their lofty perch at the expense of the WolfPack, the division's only winless squad to date.

RECENT FORM

The Cascades are coming off a weekend split on the road vs. the UBC Thunderbirds – after dropping a heartbreaking 60-59 decision last Friday, they bounced back to defeat UBC 71-64 in double-OT on Saturday.

The WolfPack are still in search of their initial win of the young season. They're coming off a pair of weekend losses at UNBC, by scores of 68-51 and 88-46.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Google Sidhu, UFV – With Cascades backcourt standout Maddy Gobeil sidelined due to injury last Saturday at UBC, Sidhu stepped up with a breakthrough performance. The 5'6" rookie guard out of Abbotsford's W.J. Mouat Secondary played 42 minutes in the 2OT win, playing tenacious defence throughout and contributing five points, six rebounds and three steals. If Sidhu can continue to contribute as a high-level role player, it would be a huge boost to the Cascades moving forward.

Kyla Smith, TRU – This weekend's games mark a homecoming for a trio of WolfPack athletes who played their high school basketball in Abbotsford. Sophomore guard Smith (MEI) leads the squad in assists, averaging 2.4 per game, and she's joined on the TRU squad by fellow local products Amira Jensen (Bateman) and Karishma Rai (Yale).

QUOTABLE

"We definitely learned some lessons about things we need to fix (last weekend vs. UBC). But after all that happened on Friday, we went to bed with the determination that we weren't going to leave that gym without a win. With Maddy not playing on Saturday, we all knew we needed to play a bigger role. It was just fun, it was exciting. There was a point in the game, between the overtimes, where Al (Tuchscherer, Cascades head coach) was like, 'Hey, isn't this fun?' Even though it was an important game, we were still playing basketball." – Cascades sophomore guard Nikki Cabuco, on what her team learned over the course of the games at UBC last week

"Honestly, the biggest thing for us that's been working is playing with pace and running the floor. We also definitely need to use our size – the past few weeks we've had some real battles on the boards. Boxing out was a big focus against UBC and we also need to bring that this weekend." – Cabuco, on what she's looking for from her team this weekend vs. TRU
