Attieh picks up U SPORTS player of the week honours

Lauren Attieh was named a U Sports volleyball player of the week following her dominant performances this past weekend for the UFV Cascades in a pair of wins over the Saskatchewan Huskies. The national recognition comes just a day after being named a Canada West volleyball player of the week.

Attieh notched 28 kills, two services aces, and 20 digs in a five-set victory on Friday. The second year outside hitter followed that up with another brilliant performance on Saturday, knocking down 21 kills and another 19 digs to help the Cascades to a four-set win.

"I think my success is tied with our team's success" Attieh explained after finding out about the conference honours.

"I have a big appreciation for my team and the support they give to me, so I just felt like I could play free and just be myself, which I think really came out on the court and led to some cool numbers that I am really proud of."

The Cascades now have a week off before their next matches on Nov. 18 and 19 in Winnipeg. Those matches are set for 4 p.m. and 4:45 p.m. PST, and can be watched live at canadawest.tv.
