McCambley's goal gives Cascades share of the points with TWU

Langley, BC – Halle McCambley's second goal of the season had the University of the Fraser Valley Cascades on the brink of victory over the Trinity Western University Spartans, but a late equalizer gave each team a share of the points on Saturday night in Langley.

How it happened
The Cascades found a breakthrough late in the first half, as McCambley dispossessed a TWU defender, before driving toward the endline and deftly chipping it over an outstretched keeper and into the net at the back post.

The Cascades defended solidly as a unit, keeping the Spartans at bay until late in the second half. With TWU looking to find a tying goal in the 90th minute Cascades' keeper Kareena Sahota was called for a foul in the box. Trinity Western's Sierra Haldorson stepped up to take the penalty, before placing it into the bottom left corner to give each team a share of the points.

Quotable
Cascades' forward McCambley on the result and scoring their second goal this season.
"It's not the result we wanted, but we have to just keep going off the momentum because we did play really well. Hopefully next weekend we will get the result that we want."

"It's definitely more fun. To be scoring goals and to have the girls behind you and pressing you to work harder. It feels nice to get the season off to a good start."

Cascades head coach Ari Adams
"We came in here knowing it was going to be a difficult task coming in to Trinity's home field. They're very technically sound and keep the ball well, but we came in with a plan and disrupted them. Unfortunately, we weren't able to hold them the whole game, but the girls worked their socks off and did a fantastic job.

Where they sit
Both teams move to 1-1-1 on the season with the result. The Cascades are back in action next Friday and Sunday as they head on the road to visit Mount Royal University and the University of Victoria respectively. Both matches can be watched live on Canada West TV.

Notable
The Cascades came into the season ranked No. 12 in the Canada West preseason coaches poll, while the Spartans were ranked No. 2.

Cascades goalkeeper Kareena Sahota made a game-high nine saves for UFV, just one shy of her season high posted against UBC.
