Kamloops, BC – The UFV Cascades kept it close, but with less than a minute left the TRU WolfPack found just enough to edge out a 64-58 victory on Saturday in Kamloops. The win moves TRU to 3-5 on the year, while the Cascades drop to 3-7 in the campaign.
As it happened:Â
The teams traded early runs, but a 12-3 run from TRU was capped off by a Denys Bachurin jumper late in the frame, to give them a 23-11 lead.
The Cascades worked to cut into that lead in the second quarter and, bolstered by some TRU early foul trouble, UFV ended the half on an 8-2 run and found themselves only down by two at the break.
Both teams struggled to score early in the third, but with under four minutes to go in the frame UFV's
Dario Lopez picked up a steal and was tripped up on a clear path foul. He went on to hit both free throws to tie the game up at 40.
A 6-2 run to start the fourth reestablished a six-point lead for TRU, but the Cascades answered back with a 6-0 run of their own. A
Clay Kurtz layup tied the game again at 57. Moments later, TRU's Daniel Bost was fouled on a three-pointer and hit all three from the line to retake the lead. Bachurin hit a jumper to make it a two-possession game with 25 seconds left. The Cascades'
Uyi Ologhola hit a free throw to cut the deficit to four and looked to have made it a one score game on the second, but UFV was called for a lane violation to cancel it out. Evan Smith hit a pair of free throws to seal it late for the WolfPack, 64-58.
