Mateo Brazinha picked up a goal and an assist on Friday night in a 4-2 loss to the UBC Thunderbirds, before
Jackson Cowx and the Cascades claimed a 2-1 victory over the University of Victoria on Sunday afternoon.
Brazinha's two-points gave him 17 points on the season, to break Gurmaan Jhaj's single-season program record of 15. Brazinha also finishes the season as the conference's leader in both goals and assists.
Sunday afternoon was the Cascades annual senior night, as UFV honoured graduating players
Dulain Panditha,
Jeevan Dhaliwal,
William Stuart,
Anthony Vega, and
Jackson Cowx in a pregame ceremony, as well as the regular season finale. The Cascades made sure to end the season on a high, as they defeated Victoria 2-1 to move to 8-5-3 on the season to beat the program's best ever regular season record of 8-6-2 set in 2016.Â
On top of the team record, UFV's Cowx picked up six saves to put him on 194 for his career to beat the previous program record of 191 set by Mark Village.Â
The Cascades got goals from
Nathan Cervo and
Gurnaj Sidhu on Sunday, as they captured the victory over the Vikes, despite resting multiple players for the season finale. Sidhu also came up with a clutch goal line clearance late in the game to guarantee the UFV victory.
Cascades head coach
Tom Lowndes praised his team after the game.Â
"Our biggest strength this season was going to be our depth and I think that showed today. We had to sit nine guys, but guys came in today and put out unbelievable performances. To show such a positive performance against number nine in the country is so pleasing."
Lowndes also noted the impact that his seniors have had on the program.
"They have all contributed in their own ways, and contributed massively. For Jackson [Cowx] he's had so many special moments, he's won us games, Vega has been a general for us in the midfield and been there from the start when we were trying to change the culture. Dulain [Panditha] has been such a good defender for us and Jeevan {Dhaliwal] has been a terrific attacker, and Will [Stuart] has been excellent for us so it's greatto get a win for them on their senior day.
Finally Lowndes praised Cowx and Brazinha on their record breaking seasons  this year.
"They have both been fantastic. With Jackson [Cowx]'s body of work he deserves that. He had a tough year last year with some injuries so for him to bounce back and take on a leadership role before breaking that record is so special. Mateo [Brazinha] is having an unbelievable year and I think the most pleasing thing for him is not just the goals, but the assists. To combine that with a season where we have had our best finish is huge. The best thing about those two is that they are team guys and they would both trade those accolades to go as far as we could go as a team. We'll regroup and get ready to go for next week and give it our all."
The Cascades now get set for the Canada West quarterfinal where they will take on the Calgary Dinos on Friday at UBC. The game is set for 4pm PT, and can be seen both in person and live on Canada West TV.Â
