The UFV Cascades picked up a pair of victories in an opening weekend set against the Alberta Pandas. The Cascades enacted a bit of revenge as the team picked up a three-set and a four-set victory over the Pandas in rematches of last season's Canada West bronze medal match.
The Cascades were ranked sixth in the annual Canada West coaches' poll, while the Pandas were ranked number two in the preseason.Â
Friday:
Second year outside hitter
Mandi Feist led all players with 11 kills on Friday as the Cascades took down the Pandas in straight sets, 25-18, 25-14, 25-23. The Cascades notched 39 kills to the Pandas 26 on Friday as they cruised to the victory. Middle
Zoe Arca had a strong match posting five blocks and two aces in the season opener.Â

Lauren and
Talia Attieh combined each had strong performances on the outside for the Cascades on Saturday, as they came up with a four-set victory (22-25, 25-23, 25-23, 25-20) over the Pandas.
Lauren Attieh led all players with 15 kills, while
Talia Attieh notched 11 kills, six aces, and three blocks in the win. Middle
Mo Likness picked up two aces and six blocks in the win.Â

The Cascades now head on the road for a pair of matches with the Mount Royal Cougars next Friday and Saturday in Calgary. Game times are set for 5pm, and 6pm respectively, and the games can be seen live on Canada West TV.
