WVB: Cascades close out weekend at Mount Royal without dropping a set.

Calgary, ALTA — The UFV Cascades completed the full weekend sweep, as they picked up their second consecutive 3-0 victory (25-21, 25-20, 25-22) over the Mount Royal Cougars on Saturday night.

"We played okay, just a little bit up and down," Cascades head coach Janelle Rozema noted after the game.

With a lead of 16-12, the Cascades were gaining success by focusing on attacking the back row of the Cougars. UFV's Mandi Feist closed out the opening set 25-21 with a fast ball straight into the back row to end the set.

After dropping the first set, the Cougars found themselves struggling as the Cascades' service aces provided an early lead into the second set, and they would take that through, as they hit .257 to close out the frame 25-20.

Entering the third set, the Cascades secured an early lead of 5-0 as their offensive swiftness stunned the Cougars. The Cougars continued to fight their way back into the game as Aiwen Ngor earned an ace and Emma Boyd sent the ball past the hands of Alicja Hardy-Francis to draw a Cascades timeout at 9-8 for UFV. After being down 1-7, Boyd and Herrod helped the Cougars to gain its first lead in the third set after a 4-point run which climbed to 12-10. Morgan and Boyd's offensive efforts found the Cascades scrambling to get underneath, securing a 3-point lead of 20-17 before another Cascades timeout. However, the Cascades' confidence did not let down as Mo Likness made a huge block that sparked the Cascades to reclaim their lead and a late service run from substitute Keira Scharfenberg helped the visitors claim their second win of the weekend at 25-22.

"We want to use a bit more of our bench this year, and keep everyone game ready." Rozema explained. "It's exciting when we can make a substitution, and that player can jump on and contribute in a positive way."

Talia Attieh led the Cascades with 11 kills on the night, while Lauren Attieh finished with 10, and Feist had nine. Cailin Bitter tallied 24 assists for UFV, and Emily Matsui logged 11 digs.

Boyd had a team-leading eight kills for the Cougars, while Mya Morgan added seven.

The Cascades now return home for a pair of matches with the University of Winnipeg on November 1 and 2. Game times are set for 6pm and 3pm respectively.
