MBB: Cascades fall in second game to the Wolfpack

Kamloops BC – The Cascades drop 71-54 in second game of weekend series against Thompson Rivers University Wolfpack in Kamloops Saturday afternoon.

The Cascades and the Wolfpack both move to 3-3 on the season.

How It Happened:
The teams chased buckets in the opening quarter and were level 13-13 with just over two minutes to go.  A lay up and three free throws from Steve Stinson helped the Wolfpack take a noticeable 18-13 lead.  However, the Cascades responded by taking back a couple points getting even 19-19 with a Vince Velasquez jump shot inside the paint right at the buzzer.

The Wolfpack quickly jumped out the gate in the second and went up by seven points with buckets from Dami Farinloye and Denys Bachurin.  The Cascades battled back to close the gap.  Dario Lopez had a pair of free throws that made it even once again 30-30 right at the half.

The fight for a solid lead in the third quarter continued.  A three-point shot, and jump shot from Stinson created the initial separation of four points for TRU midway.  The Wolfpack remained in the lead and went for a run, securing the third quarter 47-40.

The Wolfpack took over the fourth quarter.  Stinson had a pair of three-point jump shots along with a steal and a layup by Crossfield widening the gap by 13 points.  After a hard-fought battle, TRU's momentum was strong, and they closed out the game 71-54 for the win.

Notable:
Dario Lopez led the Cascades with 21 points.  Ismael Hernandez was close behind with 14 points and six rebounds.

Steve Stinson led the game with 24 points and four rebounds while Simon Crossfield had 16 points and 10 rebounds for the Wolfpack.

Quotable:
UFV head coach Joe Enevoldson

"Kamloops is a tough place to play and between two evenly placed teams to get a split was a relatively good showing for us.  Obviously, we have some things to work on and that showed tonight.  Defensively we were good on both nights, but we need to put ourselves in better positions to be successful offensively."

"We have the number one team coming into our gym next week and we have to come in, focus and try to get better every single day at practice this week.  We want to use these next games against UVIC to measure and see where we're at for the rest of the season."

What's Next:
The Cascades are back at the UFV Athletic Centre for two games on November 22 at 8pm and November 23 at 5pm against the University of Victoria Vikes.
