WVB: Cascades close out the weekend with second win over USPORTS No. 4 ranked TRU

Abbotsford, BC – The USPORTS No. 3 ranked UFV Cascades took down the No. 4 ranked TRU WolfPack for the second straight day on Saturday, winning in four sets.

The Cascades took the match with set scores of 25-22, 28-26, 21-25, and 25-23, to improve to 7-1 on the season, while TRU drops to 4-2.

How it Happened:
The Cascades jumped out to a 7-3 lead early in the first, but TRU stormed back to tie it up at 21. UFV found three consecutive kills from Lauren Attieh, Talia Attieh, and Alicja Hardy-Francis to take a late edge and close out the set 25-22.

Both teams struggled to get an edge in the second, as they traded points and small runs throughout to find it tied up at 26. From there, a Hardy-Francis block and a TRU attack error gave the Cascades the 28-26 set win.

TRU would not go away easily, as they came out strong in the third to take an 11-8 lead after a pair of Hailey Ward kills. Two Kate Lamothe aces extended that advantage to five, and despite a late push from UFV, the WolfPack took it 25-21.

The teams battled back-and-forth in the fourth, tying it up and 23, but two straight Mandi Feist kills closed out the match for UFV, 25-23.

Notable:
Feist led the Cascades with 19 kills on the night, while Lauren Attieh had 14, and Mo Likness added 10.

Hailey Ward and Rida Erlalelitepe had nine kills each for TRU.

Quotable:

"I think we have been waiting for this game all season. Props to TRU, because they put up a fight, but I think we came up with solutions really fast, and I think our game plan was perfect. It's a huge accomplishment for us and it shows that we are good. We can beat anyone."

"It's not one person. I see anyone on our team go up, and I'm like yeah, they're going to do something. Whether it puts the other team out of system or just getting a huge kill I can rely on anyone here. Everyone shined tonight."

Up next:
The Cascades head to Kelowna next week for a weekend set with the UBC Okanagan Heat to close out the first semester of action. Games are set for 11am on Friday and 1pm on Saturday, with both games available live on Canada West TV.
