WBB Tuchscherer sisters dominant in overtime win as Cascades sweep the Heat

Abbotsford B.C. – Julia Tuchscherer was one assist shy of a triple-double, and Deanna Tuchscherer scored eight points in overtime to help the Cascades win 84-75 in the final game of the series against UBC Okanagan Heat on Saturday at the UFV Athletic Centre.

How it Happened:
The Cascades had a frustrating first quarter as the Heat capitalized off seven turnovers from UFV.  Lilly Pink had a three-point shot to put the Heat up by seven points with 1:51 left as the Cascades tried to rally back.

In the second quarter, the story remained the same as the Cascades battled to find their rhythm.  Aiko Williams led the score for the Heat with eight points.  Nikki Cabuco found a three-point shot on the buzzer to cap off the second quarter, but the Cascades trailed 27-39 at the break.

The Cascades regrouped early in the third and battled their way back within one point.  Julia Tuchscherer tied the game 44-44 with 4:35 left in the third quarter.  Deanna Tuchscherer then made a lay-up which allowed the Cascades to take the lead 51-48 for the first time in the game headed into the final quarter.

In the final quarter, Lauren Foullong made two three-point shots for the Heat to retake the lead 62-60.  At 4:42, Julia Tuchscherer made a jump shot to tie the game again 62-62.  Not too long after, Nikki Cabuco had a huge three-point shot to put the Cascades ahead 65-62. The Heat drew a foul and once again tied the game 67-67.  The Cascades then moved quickly to get one back, but the Heat were able to send the game to overtime 69-69 with a lay-up from Kelsey Falk.

In overtime, Deanna Tuchscherer had six points to start off the period for the Cascades.  The Cascades kept it going to then capitalize on a steal from Leda breaking away to go up by nine points and close out the game 84-75.

Notable:
Julia Tuchscherer had 17 points, 11 rebounds, and 9 assists which is one assist away from being the 12th triple double in Canada West women's basketball history.  Deanna Tuchscherer had the game high of 26 points.  Maddy Gobeil had 14 points and eight rebounds.  Nikki Cabuco had 19 points including three triples in a row.

Quotable:
UFV forward Deanna Tuchscherer

"We dug ourselves into a bit of hole in the first half, so we had to get things together going into the second.  I think we did a good job at coming together and playing the way that we do.  Moving forward we need to figure out how to put things together for 40 minutes because we have yet to do that."

"I think coming into the second half, we had trust and confidence in one another and that was probably the biggest thing.  We knew we weren't going to get it back in one possession and we knew we were going to have to battle because they are a resilient team."

"It's cool to see [Julia] come into her own and become a dominant post player in our league and gain confidence from it.  It's cool to see as her sister and take those last moments that we have playing together and know it is special."
