WVB: Lauren Attieh leads the way as Cascades get past WolfPack in three sets

Abbotsford, BC – Lauren Attieh had a game-high eight kills, as the University of the Fraser Valley Cascades cruised to a three set victory (25-20, 25-18, 25-14) over the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack on Friday night at the UFV Athletic Centre.

The win moves the USPORTS No. six ranked Cascades to 16-3 on the season, while Thompson Rivers drops to 6-13.

How it Happened
A 7-1 run to start the match for UFV gave the hosts an early advantage, and after both teams traded runs Cailin Bitter and L. Attieh assisted on kills for one another to make it 19-14. A Natalie Crews kill closed out the opening set for UFV.

UFV raced out to a 13-8 lead in the second after setter Kinna Fisher found a block, and the Cascades comfortably finished off the second set from there.

Aces from Bitter and Gabrielle Attieh continued the solid play for the Cascades in the third, and they would not slow down finishing it off 25-14 after kills from Mo Likness and Natalie Lemoine-Sells.

Quotable:
Cascades Outside Hitter Lauren Attieh

"In these last few games we have really been striving for consistency. We have had some five-set games and some shorter games, so I think we are really trying to find that middle ground where we are playing our volleyball, but we are also dominant."

"I think our mentality going into games is that we want to break the ice early. There is always some sort of tension on the court between the two teams, so we want to go into the game and take it right away. With that tension and aggression there is also a really fine balance of playfulness, and I think our team is always able to have fun and that's where we play our best volleyball."
