Cascades Women's Basketball takes on Carleton to start national tournament
After picking up a conference bronze medal at home, the Cascades head into their first national championship appearance in a decade, but will be up against stiff competition in the OUA champion Carleton Ravens.
The game is set to go at 11:30am (PT) at the Saville Community Centre in Edmonton.
With a 21-1 regular season record, the Ravens enter the tournament as the No. 2 seed, while the Cascades come in as the seventh seed after falling to the top-seeded Saskatchewan Huskies in the Canada West Semifinal. UFV boasts a 19-4 record overall this season and will be looking to pull off the upset to get into the medal rounds.
Led by Canada West First Team All-Star
Maddy Gobeil, and Third Team All-Star
Deanna Tuchscherer, the Cascades will face off against the Ravens' dynamic duo of OUA First Team All-Star Kali Pocrnic, and Second Team All-Star Tatyanna Burke.
The Ravens and Cascades have never met outside of preseason tournaments with the last meeting coming at the
preseason Calgary Cup in 2019.
All 11 games from the eight-team competition will be broadcast live on CBC Sports digital platforms, including YouTube, and CBC Gem in English. In French, the games will be carried on Radio Canada's digital platforms (French), with Sunday's gold medal game being aired on TVA Sports.
Cascades Women's Volleyball battles Alberta for Canada West Bronze
The UFV Cascades women's volleyball team saw their bid for a conference championship end in disappointment last weekend with a series loss to Manitoba, but the squad still has a chance to make a bit of history and collect the program's first Canada West medal in just their third season in the conference.
The Cascades will host the University of Alberta Pandas on Friday at 6:00 pm (PT) at the UFV Athletic Centre, with the winner also earning a berth into the U SPORTS National Tournament.
Tickets are available here.
The Cascades and Pandas met twice in the regular season, with each team capturing a win. UFV entered the playoffs as the third seed, thanks to their 20-4 record, while Alberta's 18-6 record put them in fifth after the regular season.
Canada West First Team All-Star
Gabrielle Attieh, and Second Team All-Star
Lauren Attieh lead the charge for the Cascades, while UFV will look to stop Alberta's All-Star Lauryn Tremblay, and All-Rookie team members Ronnie Dickson and Abby Guezen.
The match will be aired live on
Canada West TV.
