Edmonton, AB –
Maddy Gobeil became the fourth player in UFV Cascades women's basketball program history to be named a U Sports All-Canadian on Wednesday night, as the fourth-year guard was named to the U SPORTS women's basketball second team at the U SPORTS Final 8 banquet.
Gobeil's sparkling season saw her average 17.7 points, 3.3 assists, 3.3 steals, 5.8 rebounds, and 28.9 minutes per game. She ranked second in the Canada West conference in points and steals, and third in field goals.
Starting every game for the Cascades, Gobeil led her team to a 17-3 conference record, a Canada West bronze medal, and a berth in nationals for the first time in 10 years.
Gobeil follows Sarah Wierks in 2014-15, Kayli Sartori in 2015-16, and Taylor Claggett in 2019-20 who all earned second team honours.
The seventh seeded UFV Cascades start their search for a national title on Thursday morning at 11:30 am PT, as they face the two seed Carleton Ravens. The game can be seen live on the CBC Sports digital channels including CBC Gem, cbcsports.ca, and the CBC Sports YouTube channel.
