WSOC: Cascades fall 4-0 to WolfPack

Kamloops, BC – The UFV Cascades women's soccer team fell 4-0 to the TRU WolfPack on Saturday night in Kamloops.

The Cascades fall to 0-2 to start, while TRU moved to 1-2 on the season.

How it happened:
TRU opened the scoring early off of a corner kick. Bella Gremia sent in a ball that bounced off numerous legs in an 18-yard box scramble before Ainsley Grether was able to power a volley into the back of the net.

The WolfPack kept up the pressure throughout the remainder of the half but weren't able to add to their lead until the 68th minute of action. Rookie Hannah Dhillon sent a pass that was perfectly placed into the path of Julia La Rotta who made no mistake to send the ball into the top right corner.

The WolfPack's insurance marker came just minutes later when Katie Chun headed forward a pass to an open space behind the UFV defence where Bridget Baird was able to outpace the defenders and neatly tuck the ball into the back of the net.

La Rotta put the finishing touches on the victory with her second of the night in the 80th minute of play.

Notable:
Cascades goalkeeper Alana Madec made her first career Canada West start, and made nine save on the night.

Quotable:
UFV head coach Ari Adams

"We are going to have to go back to basics. We have such a young team with a lack of experience, and we will have to reset after playing a pair of teams that played last week. We didn't have the depth with a few players out injured and our youth really showed tonight."

Adams on the positives from Saturday's game

"We had a few rookies really pull through. Emerson Toop had to be put in a few different positions on the field and everywhere we put her she put in a solid effort and shut down our opponent individually. Keanna Bentley had to be moved out of her normal position, and she really pushed through and worked hard the entire game."

Next Up:
The Cascades return home for a pair of matches at Rotary stadium next weekend. They will take on the Mount Royal Cougars at 6pm on Friday, September 13, and the Victoria Vikes on Sunday at 3pm. Both games can be streamed live on canadawest.tv.
