MBB: Third quarter run sees Cascades fall to WolfPack on Saturday afternoon

Abbotsford, BC – The UFV Cascades dropped an 83-74 decision to the TRU WolfPack on Saturday afternoon at the UFV Athletic Centre.

The loss sees the Cascades record move to 5-7 on the season, while TRU improves to 6-6 in the campaign. The teams sit fourth and third in the pacific division respectively.

How it happened:
The teams traded points throughout the first, but an 8-2 run for TRU at the end of the quarter gave them a four-point edge. A Chris Jackson jumper would tie the game back up in the second, but six quick points from TRU's Cyrus Harrison helped the visitors regain a two-point advantage at the half.

The teams traded the lead early in the third, but an 11-0 WolfPack run gave TRU the first double-digit lead of the game. UFV would cut that back down to five on a Vince Velasquez jumper, but that would be as close as they would get as the teams traded scoring plays down the stretch enroute to the TRU win.

Notable:
Chris Jackson led the team in scoring for the second straight night off the bench – dropping 14 points in the game. Clay Kurtz added 12 points, and Jake Willemsen went 3-4 from deep to add 10 points.

Quotable:
UFV head coach Joe Enevoldson

"TRU is a team that works very hard. They're physical, they have a bunch of fifth year guys that have played together, and tonight the flat out wanted it more. They did a good job jamming us up."

"It's a disappointing effort today, but you know some individual efforts were pretty good, so I don't want to downplay those, but I think there were some scenarios in the game where we had a pretty good first effort but it's the second effort we need. Next week we all have to be better. Myself, coaching staff included. We have a chance to go out and do what we love to do, and we have to respect the game."

Up next:
The Cascades head on the road next week for a pair of games against the UBC Thunderbirds on January 17 and 18. The games can also be seen live on Canada West TV.
