Maddy Gobeil put up 22 first half points, and
Miah Schuurman added a career-high tying 10 points, as the UFV Cascades surged past the MacEwan University Griffins 80-41 on Friday night in Abbotsford.
The win puts the Cascades record to 10-5 on the season, while the Griffins fall to 0-13 in the campaign.
How it happened:
The Cascades took control in the first quarter, with
Maddy Gobeil putting up 10 points, and
Miah Schuurman adding 5 for the hosts in the frame. Despite MacEwan's Unity Obasuyi chipping in five of her own, an 11-4 run at the end of the first gave the Cascades a 21-9 lead going into the second.
Gobeil shined even more for the Cascades in the second, as the fifth-year guard put in 12 of UFV's 20 points in the quarter, and the hosts increased the advantage to 41-18 at the break.
The Griffins slowed the Cascades down in the third, but a
Google Sidhu triple made the margin 27 with 13 minutes to play.
The fourth quarter played out much the same as the first two, as the Cascades outscored MacEwan 24-12 in the frame and they cruised to the 80-41 victory.
Notable:
Gobeil finished the match with 26 points, six steals, and five rebounds, while Schurrman posted 10 points, and six rebounds.
Julia Tuchscherer added 13 points and seven rebounds in the win.
Quotable:
UFV's
Miah Schuurman:
"We were talking about just working on scoring early in the game, and taking advantage of first possessions, and I think we did that well today. I think we just have to learn from our mistakes and play a better game tomorrow."
"[Nights like these] are just building off of mistakes, and it gives me more motivation to better my game day by day."
