Maddy Gobeil led the UFV Cascades with 23 points on Friday, as they took down the UNBC Timberwolves 77-56 in Prince George.
The Cascades move to 12-5 on the season with the win, while UNBC drops to 4-11.
How it happened:
The Cascades flew out to a 16-3 early after an
Esther Allison and one, but a pair of Sarah Kuklisin buckets helped UNBC cut that lead down to just six at the end of the first.
Amrit Manak hit a pair of shots early in the second, and UNBC pulled within one, but eight straight UFV points from
Nikki Cabuco helped the Cascades stretch the lead back to 14 at the break.
The teams traded small runs throughout the third, but the Cascades pulled away in the fourth. After a
Julia Tuchscherer lay-up,
Maddy Gobeil hit a pair of triples to make it an 18-point game and put it out of reach. A couple of buckets from Allison closed it out for UFV in the 21-point victory.
Notable:
Gobeil notched 23 points, seven rebounds, and five assists in the game, while
Esther Allison added 13 points and five boards.
Julia Tuchscherer picked up a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds.
The win puts the Cascades in the driving seat to secure a home playoff spot, as Victoria who currently sits third in the division (9-6) dropped a decision to Lethbridge on Friday.

Al Tuchscherer
"Tonight is an important win in the race for second in the division. Now we need to regroup and have another strong effort tomorrow."
