Abbotsford, BC – The University of Victoria Vikes defeated the University of the Fraser Valley Cascades 3-0 on Friday afternoon at Rotary Stadium.
The result moves the Vikes to 5-3-3 on the season, while the Cascades drop to 3-6-2 with the loss.
How it Happened:
Adrianna Hilton opened the scoring in the second minute, finishing off a pass from Ruby Nicholas for the Vikes.
UFV had a good chance to equalize just before the half, as
Emma Olson forced a turnover that fell to
Kiana Langston. Langston shot it from the edge of the box with her left foot, but saw the ball sail just wide.
Abby McDonald doubled the Victoria lead when Nicholas fired a cross in to the back post in the 48
th minute.
Langston looked to pull one back for UFV in the 59
th minute, but the whistle blew for an offside in the build-up just as her shot hit the netting.
Victoria's Scarlett McNeely put the game out of reach in the 80
th minute, as she capitalized on her own rebound to make it 3-0.
Quotable:
UFV head coach Ari Adams
"Tonight, we didn't play to our full potential. We didn't bring the same energy and quality that we brought to our last home games. Despite having a solid push in the second half, and creating several chances to keep us in the game, UVIC managed to put their chances away while we continued to struggle to put the ball in the back of the net."
"There is a lot of talent on this team, and we need to make a final push in our last three games to show teams that we are here to continue to compete."
Next Up:
The Cascades continue their season at home on Sunday, as they take on the UBC Thunderbirds at 1pm. The game will also serve as the team's annual senior night, where the program will honour their graduating athletes in a pregame ceremony.
