Abbotsford, BC –
Mandi Feist and
Talia Attieh each posted five aces on Friday as the UFV Cascades took down the Regina Cougars in four sets, 25-19, 25-18, 21-25, 25-20, at the UFV Athletic Centre.
UFV improves to 1-2 on the season with the win, while Regina falls to 2-3.
How it happened:
Talia Attieh was a dominant force for UFV in the opening set, as she posted four aces, four kills, and a block. Three of those aces came during a serving run that pushed the set from 16 apiece, to 21-16 in favour of the Cascades as UFV closed the opener out 25-19.
A pair of Feist aces helped UFV take a 15-6 lead in the second, and despite a push back from the Cougars a kill from
Aubrey Gingles and a Regina error gave the Cascades a 2-0 lead in the match.
Regina wouldn't roll over, and with the score tied at 20 in the third Anna Schultz would find three kills in the next six points to help the Cougars extend the match 25-21.
Three Feist aces with the set tied at 14 in the fourth helped the Cascades take a 21-14 lead, and a few moments later a
Naomi Unger kill finished off the match 25-20.

UFV outside hitter
Lauren Attieh
"Today our mentality was to go get it from the get go and let's hold that energy all the way through. I think you saw it today with our high energy after the weekend off, we just wanted volleyball and we put on a show tonight which is pretty cool."
"I think it shows we are all weapons in our own way. You would never want the same kind of weapon coming from all corners of the court, we all want something different. When a teammate is pulling one way, I'm going to show up in another way. It just shows our team cohesion and how Janelle [Rozema] coaches us as individual players, not just as a whole, and we're able to grow in different ways."  – L. Attieh on the team's ability to find points in different ways.
