Abbotsford, BC –
Ismael Hernandez posted a team-high double-double with 22 points and 12 rebounds, but the Cascades fell 83-81 to the Trinity Western Spartans on Friday in Langley.
The loss sees UFV drop to 0-3 on the season, while TWU improves to 1-2.
How it happened:
A Stewart Logan triple and a Marcus Shankar Bucket gave the Spartans a 12 point lead after the first quarter, but UFV battled back with a
Jaylen Lee bucket, a pair of Hernandez free throws, and a
Bennett O'Connor layup to cut the deficit to four at the half.
The teams traded runs in the third, with TWU making it a 10 point advantage going into the final frame.Â
The Cascades pushed back again late, and with under seven minutes remaininga
Hayden Sansalone steal turned into a transition three for
Dilveer Randhawa to give UFV their first lead of the game at 71-69. The teams traded shots, before a pair of Hernandez free throws levelled the score up at 81 apiece with 42 seconds remaining.Â
A foul with 25 seconds left sent Connor Platz to the line, and after he made both the Cascades would have the final possession. UFV looked to find the opening with Hernandez driving the lane, but a pair of late blocks shut the door, to close out the result.
