CALGARY — The University of Calgary Dinos women's volleyball team picked up a straight-sets win over the Fraser Valley Cascades on Friday night, taking the match 3-0 (26-24, 25-20, 25-21) at the Jack Simpson Gym.

Calgary finished strong with a .245 hitting percentage. Outside hitter Sophia Hansen led the team with 15 kills, while setter Anya Fehr dished out 31 assists. The Dinos also served up eight aces in the sweep.

The Dinos found their rhythm early, with Hansen and Fehr driving the offence. The first set quickly became a back-and-forth battle as UFV responded with a pair of service aces. Calgary countered with balanced scoring from Hansen, Ashley Ditchfield and Narelle Arnold. Hansen came up with several late kills, with Fehr setting the pace, helping Calgary hold off the Cascades and take the set 26-24.

In the second, Calgary seized control early and never looked back. A service run from Arnold, combined with quick kills from Leni Blanke and Kalyssa Komori, pushed the Dinos to a 10-5 lead. Calgary's serving continued to disrupt Fraser Valley, producing six aces in the set from Arnold, Blanke and Komori. The Dinos extended their lead to 20-15, and despite a late push from Naomi Unger and Sydney Wright, Calgary closed the set 25-20 on a kill from Hansen.

The third set mirrored the competitiveness of the first, with the lead bouncing back and forth in the early stages. Calgary pulled ahead 17-14 thanks to Hansen and Fehr, while timely blocks and strong serving from Ditchfield and Arnold kept the Dinos in control. Fraser Valley closed the gap to 23-21, but Calgary responded with late kills and disciplined serving to wrap up the sweep.

The win is the second in a row for the Dinos as they improve to 4-5 on the year with one game to go before the end of the first semester. UFV drops to 5-4, snapping their two-game win streak.
