WVB | Feist leads Cascades attack to a gritty win in game two of Regina series

A strong attack from Mandi Feist helped the Cascades get a 3-1 (25-14,25-15,28-30,25-19) win over the University of Regina Cougars Saturday night in Regina.

The win now has the Cascades at 14-2 while the Cougars are 4-14.

How It Happened:
The Cascades pulled away quickly as UFV capitalized on the Cougars free balls allowing Zoe Arca to have the first two kills of the game.  The cougars came back briefly 8-5 as Devyn Grimsrud had two kills for the cougars.  Throughout the set, the Cascades found their rhythm and went on an eight-point run taking the score to18-8 gaining a big separation from the Cougars.  The Cascades then took the first set 25-14 off a service error from the Cougars.

UFV came up first with a kill again from Arca setting the momentum for UFV in the second set.  The cougars looked more confident throughout as they battled for the lead however, UFV's attack did not let off as kills from Lauren Attieh brought the score to 15-7.  Late in the set, Mandi Feist came up big with three kills in a row and a block from Alicja Hardy-Francis let the Cascades secure the set 25-15.

The story remained the same in the beginning of the third set.  The Cascades maintained the lead for the majority, but the Cougars stayed close behind.  Late in the third, the Cougars went on a six-point run evening out the score 24-24.  The teams went back and forth fighting for each point however, the Cougars came back and took the third set 30-28 off a couple of UFV attack errors sending the game into a fourth.

In the fourth set, the teams stayed close in points.  No team gained a significant lead until midway when Talia Attieh and Feist had a kill each bringing the score to 12-10.  The Cascades slowly started to pull away further as Feist drove the attack.  The play continued and the Cascades closed out the final set 25-19 with a kill from Lauren Attieh.

Notable:
Mandi Feist led the Cascades in kills with 16 while Talia Attieh was close behind with 15.  Caitlin bitter also had 42 assists.

Devyn Grimsrud led the Cougars with 10 kills.

Quotable:
Head Coach Janelle Rozema
"At this point in the season everyone is playing their best volleyball, and we have to embrace the challenge.  Points don't come fast and easy, as teams play longer rallies and we need to sustain longer rallies."

"We are expecting that every match heading into the playoffs is going to be a challenge and we're going to have to earn every point.  Teams are cleaning errors up and we have to find ways to score, and Regina gave us that challenge today."
