WBB: Cascades run away with 30-point victory over rival Trinity Western

Julia Tuchscherer scored a game-high 18 points, as the UFV Cascades picked up a dominant 74-44 win over the Trinity Western Spartans on Friday night in Abbotsford.

The win puts the Cascades Canada West record at 14-5 on the season, while TWU falls to 10-9.

How it happened:
The Cascades started the game off strong, outscoring TWU 16-8 in the first quarter, before a 6-0 run to start the second put UFV up by 14. The Spartans would claw back, cutting the lead to just seven before a pair of J. Tuchscherer free throws gave UFV a nine-point lead at the break.

Four straight points from J. Tuchscherer capped off an 11-point UFV run in the middle of the third, as they pushed the advantage to 18, before a Google Sidhu jumper put the Cascades up 57-35 going into the fourth.

The Cascades cruised from there, getting scoring contributions from six players in the fourth, and outscoring TWU 17-8 in the frame on their way to the 30-point win.

Notable:
Julia Tuchscherer led the way for UFV, scoring 18 points and adding seven rebounds, while Maddy Gobeil had 16 points on the night.

With six field goals on the night, Gobeil is now just eight short of becoming the first player in program history to hit 500 in her career.

The Cascades defense held every member of the Spartans to under 10 points in the game and held the team to under 10 points in three of four quarters.

The two teams meet up once again on Saturday at the UFV Athletic Centre to close out the regular season.Tip-off is set for 3pm PT, and the game can be seen live on Canada West TV. The Cascades will also be honouring a number of graduating seniors in a post-game ceremony.
