Talia Attieh had a match-high 17 kills, as the USPORTS No. 5 ranked UFV Cascades took down the Trinity Western University Spartans in a three set sweep on Friday, as they close out the week with two wins over their local rivals.
The win moves the Cascades to 16-2 on the season, at the top of the Canada West standings, while the Spartans fall to 6-12 to sit in ninth.Â
How it happened:
The match picked up where Friday left off, as Six kills from
Talia Attieh in the early portion of the opening set helped the Cascades take an 18-11 lead, but the Spartans battled back to tie it up at 24 off a Maryn Boldon ace. However, the next two points would go the way of UFV by way of a pair of TWU attack errors to give the hosts a 1-0 lead.
After the teams battled point for point early in the second, UFV would once again find a lead. This time an
Alicja Hardy-Francis ace, and a TWU error gave the Cascades a 21-15 advantage. A pair of T. Attieh aces helped finish off the frame 25-20.
Early serving runs from
Cailin Bitter,
Lauren Attieh, and
Mo Likness gave the Cascades a 10-2 lead in the third, but the Spartans battled back once more, and a block from Kaylee Plouffe and Faye Murray tied it up at 19. Lauren and
Talia Attieh would each find late kills for UFV to make it 23-21, and after Likness and L. Attieh combined for a block, it was yet another T. Attieh kill to seal the match 25-23.

"That was probably the biggest crowd I have had since I came here, so that was amazing. It was so fun with my family being here for senior night too, It was such a great night, and I'll remember it forever."
