Abbotsford, BC –
Alana Madec and the UFV Cascades kept a clean sheet on Friday as they picked up a point with a 0-0 draw with the UBC Okanagan Heat at Rotary Stadium.
The result sees the Cascades record go to 2-5-2, while UBCO moves to 2-3-2 on the season.
How it Happened:
The Cascades controlled the bulk of play early on, outshooting UBCO 4-0 in the first 22 minutes, but were unable to find a breakthrough.
UBCO would find their best chance of the half in the 35
th minute when Sydney Kolodziej charged up the right wing and fired a shot toward goal, but Madec was up to the task tipping the ball over the bar.
Both teams found good chances in the 53
rd minute, as another Kolodziej shot was stopped by Madec, and after the Cascades gathered the rebound
Kiana Langston was sprung on a break. However, Langston's shot skidded just wide of the left post.
Both teams had chances over the rest of the half, but neither was able to end the deadlock and the match ended scoreless.
Notable:
The clean sheet was Madec's second of the year, and UFV's third of the season.
Quotable:
Cascades defender
Kenzie Fitzgerald
"I'm very proud of the team effort we put in. We really needed that. We have been working towards this all week, and these past three weeks we have just set goals for ourselves and for our team. I think we have done a good job of managing the players that we are against, and the hard work is paying off in a good result today."
"From the front line to the back line, everyone is doing their defensive role and we're playing as a team. Our confidence is definitely going up. We just have to keep the momentum that we have right now and keep pushing forward."
