Abbotsford, BC –  Despite a slow start, the UFV Cascades got big contributions from
Talia Attieh and
Meera Hameed on Saturday with both outside hitters posted hitting percentages over .400, in a four-set (27-25, 19-25, 25-16, 25-17) win over the Brandon University Bobcats.
The win bumps the Cascades record to 7-5 on the season, while Brandon falls to 1-11 in Canada West.
How it happened:
After the Bobcats shocked UFV to open the set on a 6-0 run and build an 11-2 advantage, the Cascades would climb all the way back. Eventually fending off three set points, as back-to-back kills from
Mandi Feist would finish off the set 27-25.
The Bobcats continued their strong play in the second set building a 16-11 lead, and despite the Cascades closing the gap to two late in the set Brandon held on to close it out 25-19.
An
Andi Calon ace in the third made it a 15-9 advantage in the third for UFV , as they cruised to a 25-16 set win.Â
The teams traded short runs in the fourth, but UFV would pull away late. Kills from Calon and
Cailin Bitter would set up
Mandi Feist to end the match, 25-17.
Notable:
Talia Attieh led all hitters with 16 kills on the night, while rookie
Meera Hameed posted a career best nine kills and a .444 hitting percentage in the match for UFV. Setter
Cailin Bitter had 32 assists and three kills on the night.
Madelyn Hettinga and Cassidy Hauta led the way for Brandon with eight kills and seven kills respectively.

"We are in every set. We don't ever go away, and other teams will see that we don't just roll over."
"I feel honoured to be on this court. It was honestly just one of those moments where our team came together, and our coach Janelle kept us cool and calm, and we could play an awesome game."
