WBB: Cascades win third straight to improve record to .500

Kamloops, BC –  The UFV Cascades women's basketball team picked up their third consecutive victory to start 2026, as they scored a 54-40 win over the TRU WolfPack on Thursday night in Kamloops.

UFV has now won five of their last six games, as their record improves to 7-7, to sit fourth in the Canada West Pacific division. Meanwhile, TRU falls to 6-9 in sixth.

How it happened:
The teams would open the game fairly even, battling to a 7-7 scoreline. However, the Cascades would find the next eight points with Julia Tuchscherer finding four of her 10 first half points. A Bernie Leda triple, and a bucket from Fania Taylor would see UFV finish the half on a 7-0 run and lead 37-22 at the break.

TRU's Morgan Eichenberger had 14 first half points, but the WolfPack only managed a single field goal from the rest of the squad in the opening two quarters.

Buckets by Tuchscherer and Leda late in the third would push their lead to 22, and some good management from the Cascades would slow the game down as they closed it out, 54-40.

Notable:
Julia Tuchscherer led the Cascades with 14 points, seven rebounds, and three blocked shots, while Bernie Leda had 12 points four assists, and two blocks. Kyanna Knodel finished one point shy of a double-double, scoring nine and adding 11 rebounds.

Morgan Eichenberger finished the game with a game-high 17 points and 11 boards to lead TRU.

Quotable:
UFV head coach Al Tuchscherer

"For us it's learning how to be an elite competitive team. We had 3 losses in the first half of the season that we had a chance in, but just didn't do what successful teams do.

So we are starting to see some of those things - preparation, playing tougher, putting consecutive possessions together.  Small steps. The big challenge for us is Saturday night, after long travel - are we a more mature team than we were 2 months ago. Can we play a quality game?"

Up next:
The Cascades make the trip up to Prince George to face the UNBC Timberwolves on Saturday to finish off the weekend.
