Prince George, BC – A massive third quarter swung the momentum the way of the UFV Cascades on Saturday, as they picked up an 81-71 win over the UNBC Timberwolves.
The win pushes UFV's record to 9-6 on the season to sit fourth in the Pacific Division, while UNBC falls to 2-12 in Canada West play.
How it happened
There wasn't much to separate the teams in the opening quarter, with
Bennett O'Connor leading UFV with five points and Chris Ainsley keeping pace for UNBC, as UFV held a narrow two point advantage.
An eight-point frame from Ainsley appeared to have UNBC entering the half with a lead, but O'Connor found
Marcus Flores under the basket for a late bucket to give the Cascades a one-point margin at the break.
The Cascades opened the third quarter on a 18-4 run, that included eight points from Flores and six points from
Dario Lopez, to see UFV take a 15-point lead in the middle of the frame.
The teams would play mostly even from there, with UNBC pulling back within eight on a Milan Pasquale layup in the last minute of the fourth, but UFV managed the second half well closing out the 81-71 win.
Notable:
Flores led UFV with 22 points and 11 rebounds in the game, while
Dario Lopez scored 14 and added 12 boards.
Dilveer Randhawa finished with 12 points and eight assists in the contest, while O'Connor had 11 points and eight helpers.
Ainsley put up a game-high 23 points for UNBC, while Miller Davies chipped in 12 of his own.
The Cascades outscored the Timberwolves 30-18 in the third quarter, while every other frame was played to a margin of three points or less.
