The UFV Cascades men's volleyball team suffered a three set defeat (25-10, 25-13, 25-13 to the University of Manitoba Bisons on Thursday afternoon in Winnipeg.
How it happened:
A pair of aces from Wizdom Smaith in the early stages helped Manitoba jump to a 10-2 lead. After a service error, the Bisons kept the pressure on making it 15-3, as they went on to take the opening set convincingly 25-10.
The teams battled back and forth to open the second set, with a pair of
Danilo Skipina kills helping to keep it a one-point game with the Bison's up 9-8. That would change quickly however, as three kills by Benjamin Kuhner helped swing the momentum heavily in Manitoba's favour and they went on to take the frame 25-13.
UFV would keep it close through the early stages of the third, but once again the offence from Manitoba proved to be too much to handle as the closed out the match 25-13.
Notable:
Rookie
Danilo Skipina led UFV with five kills, while first-year teammate
Hristo Manov had four.
Kuhner had nine kills for Manitoba, while Smith chipped in seven kills and three aces.
