Fania Taylor and
Miah Schuurman combined for 42 of the UFV women's basketball team's 80 points on the night, as they claimed an eight point victory over the University of Victoria Vikes on Thursday in Victoria.
How it happened:
Just a single point separated the Cascades and Vikes at half time, as Victoria held a 42-41 lead.
A 9-1 run for UFV to start the second gave them a boost, and boosted by eight third quarter points from Schuurman the Cascades would lead by eight going into the final frame. TAfter UFV extended the lead to as many as 15 in the fourth, it would be too much to overcome for the Vikes as the Cascades closed out the season opening win.
Notable:
Taylor led UFV with 22 points on the night, while Schuurman had 20. UFV outshot Victoria from the field going 42.6% compared to just 37.9% for the Vikes.
Victoria's Avery Geddes had 20 points for the host Vikes, while Makena Anderson had 18 points and 10 rebounds in the contest.
