Abbotsford, BC – The UFV Cascades responded from a three-set loss the previous night to claim a three-set victory of their own (25-17, 25-23, 25-23) over the U Sports No. 9 ranked Manitoba Bisons on Saturday at the UFV Athletic Centre.
The win sees UFV finish the regular season with a 10-10 record, while Manitoba ends off at 14-6.
How it Happened:
A well spread-out offence got the Cascades off to a great start on senior night, as
Mandi Feist and
Talia Attieh each had five kills, and
Lauren Attieh added four in the opening set. In comparison, the Bisons only managed seven as a team in the frame, and UFV grabbed the 1-0 lead.
The Cascades continued to look strong in the second, jumping out to a 9-4 lead before forcing a Manitoba timeout. The Bisons clawed back after that, and a Aviendah Plett kill would tie the set at 16. UFV would regain a lead after kills from
Lauren Attieh and
Bianca Pura, and another
Lauren Attieh kill finished off the set 25-23.
Manitoba grabbed a 14-10 lead in the third, but
Cailin Bitter would find her fourth ace of the match in a run to tie the set back up at 15. After a pair of blocks from
Talia Attieh and
Zoe Arca, UFV would gain a small advantage and a pair of
Lauren Attieh kills down the stretch would close it out and complete the three set win for the Cascades.
Notable:
UFV setter
Cailin Bitter had the Cascades offence humming as she posted 29 assists, four aces, and three blocks over the three sets.
Lauren Attieh had a team-high 14 kills with just one error, while
Talia Attieh had 11 kills and zero errors on the night.Â
Raya Surinx led the Bisons with 14 kills, while Eve Catojo had the next highest tally on the team with six.
The Cascades celebrated graduating athletes
Lauren Attieh,
