Preview: Cascades women’s volleyball hosts Griffins as best-of-three play-in series kicks off postseason

The UFV Cascades women's volleyball team starts their postseason run with a best-of-three series against the MacEwan University Griffins this weekend at the UFV Athletic Centre. Game times are set for 6pm on Friday and Saturday, with game three scheduled for Sunday at 3pm if necessary.

The seventh seeded Cascades will be facing the 10th seeded Griffins for the first time since UFV defeated MacEwan in the 2024 conference quarterfinal.  

Each game will be available to watch live on Canada West TV, while UFV students and staff get free admission to each of the team's home games.

Women's Volleyball
  • The last time these teams met was in the 2024 Canada West quarterfinals, with UFV winning the best-of-three 2-0 (3-1, 3-1).
  • UFV Setter Cailin Bitter finished her final regular season game last week with 639 assists this season, pushing her career total to 2962 to move into 10th all-time in Canada West. Outside hitters Lauren and Talia Attieh averaged 2.97 and 2.96 kills per set this season for the Cascades.
  • UFV's Mandi Feist set a new program single-season record during the course of this season, scoring 36 aces to surpass the previous record by one.
  • MacEwan is led into the week by the outside hitter duo of Kara Frith and Alyshia Bryks, who each have over 3.0 kills per set on the season, and setter Payton Shimoda who has 625 assists on the year.
  • The Cascades led the conference in the regular season with 184 aces, compared to MacEwan who was 13th with 102.
  • UFV was 11th in blocks per set at 1.77, while the Griffins were tenth at 1.82.
  • MacEwan was 12th in Canada West with 13.9 points per set, while UFV was 6th at 15.7 points per set.
