PREVIEW: Cascades look ahead to Canada West Quarterfinal starting Thursday

The UFV Cascades women's volleyball team continues their playoff run this week as they head to Vancouver for a best-of-three series against the UBC Thunderbirds in the Canada West Quarterfinals. Matches are set for 5:30pm PT at War Memorial Gymnasium on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday if necessary.

The seventh seeded Cascades will be facing the 2nd seeded team from UBC with the winner advancing to the semifinals, and potentially booking a spot in this year's U SPORTS national Championship depending on results in other series'. 

Each game will be available to watch live on Canada West TV.

Women's Volleyball
  • The Cascades finished off their Canada West Play-in round last weekend with a 2-1 series victory (3-1, 1-3, 3-1) over the MacEwan University Griffins. 
  • UFV right side Talia Attieh was named a conference 2nd Team All Star on Wednesday by Canada West to cap off another terrific regular season.
  • UFV's Lauren Attieh led the match in kills in both of the Cascades wins over MacEwan last weekend, and the fifth-year outside hitter will look to have a repeat showing this week against UBC.
  • UBC finished the regular season as the No. 2 ranked team in the  U SPORTS national rankings.  The Thunderbirds defeated UFV 3-1 and 3-0 in the team's two matchups this season. UFV however picked up three wins over teams that finished the year in the nation's top-10 (No. 1 Alberta, No. 6 Thompson Rivers, and No. 10 Manitoba).
  • The Cascades led the conference in the regular season with 184 aces, while UBC was just behind on 183. 
  • UBC led Canada West with 12.83 kills per set this season, while UFV was sixth with 11.58.
