Langley, BC – A stoppage time goal for the Trinity Western University Spartans gave them a 1-0 victory over the UFV Cascades in the season opener on Friday at Chase office Field in Langley. 

TWU opens the season 1-0, while the Cascades start 0-1 as they look ahead to their next game on Sunday. 

How it Happened:
The Spartans held the bulk of the possession in the match, but a well-organized Cascades squad nullified much of the pressure. Twu found their first solid chance in the 29th minute, but a fantastic kick save from UFV's Alana Madec kept the game level. 

The Cascades found a chance of their own in the 65th minute, when a ball over the top from Sarah Belcher found Emerson Toop at the corner of the six-yard box, but her shot was smothered by the TWU keeper. 

After a series of corner kicks in the late stages of the match, TWU's Liana Holz would get on the end of a ball from Sophie Crowther and her header would find the net for the winner. 

Notable:
Madec had a strong night in goal for the Cascades with five saves.

UFV will continue their opening weekend with a trip to Prince George to face the UNBC Timberwolves on Sunday at 12pm PT.
