Prince George, BC – The UFV Cascades battled back from an early deficit, and despite a pair of red cards, managed to hold on to secure a point away against the UNBC Timberwolves on Sunday afternoon in Prince George.
The result moves UFV to a 1-2-1 record to start the season, while UNBC goes to 0-1-1.
How it Happened:
A through ball from Mehdi Bounaaja found James Jordan in the 15
th minute, and the UNBC forward made no mistake sliding it home to give the hosts the 1-0 lead.
UFV goalkeeper
Matheus De Souza came up with a terrific save in the 31
st minute, tipping a Bounaaja shot over the bar to keep it a one goal game.
The Cascades appeared to tie the game in the 38
th minute, but
Nathan Cervo's header was deemed not to have crossed the line as UNBC's Hagon Kim cleared it away.
UNBC had a golden chance to double the lead in the 61
st minute, but Trevor Scott's shot rang off the left post after a strong run into the box.
Ebi Igali would play the role of both hero and villain for the Cascades late in the half. The defender rose above everyone in the 73
rd minute and powered a strong header into the top right corner to level the match at one.
Just eight minutes later, Igali found himself on the wrong end of a call. After turning the ball over near midfield, he would be called for a foul on the resulting break and was shown a red card for a foul as the last defender.
Things would go from bad to worse for the visitors as UFV's
Mateo Brazinha would be sent off in stoppage time after pushing a UNBC player that had control of the ball at midfield.
Despite playing the final minutes with nine men the Cascades gutted out the result, holding UNBC without much of a chance on goal before the final whistle.
Notable:
Fouls in the match were 21-12 for UNBC.
UFV finished the match with five shots on target, compared to just three for UNBC.

UFV now gets set for their home opening weekend next Friday and Saturday at Rotary Stadium. The Cascades women's soccer team will face UBC on Friday at 7:45pm before taking on Thompson Rivers on Saturday at 7:45pm.
