WSOC: Mudaliar and Langston score as Cascades topple Timberwolves for first win of the season

Prince George, BC – An early goal from Eesha Mudaliar set the tone and a late tally from Kiana Langston sealed it, as the UFV Cascades took down the UNBC Timberwolves 2-0 to close out their opening weekend with a win.

The result sees the Cascades go to 1-1 on the season, while UNBC falls to 0-2.

How it Happened:
The Cascades got off to a great start in the sixth minute, as Eesha Mudaliar blasted a shot from 40 yards out into the UNBC goal for UFV's first marker of the season.

UFV continued to press throughout the opening half, but the Timberwolves would hold on and the teams went into the break separated by just a goal.

The Cascades had a flurry of chances to double their lead in the 65th minute, but were turned away by a number of last ditch saves from UNBC keeper Johanna Rathke to hold the visitors at bay.

Kiana Langston sealed the match for UFV in the 80th minute, as she took advantage of a UNBC clearance striking a body to find herself on a breakaway. The Cascades striker calmly rounded the keeper and slid it into the wide-open goal to make it 2-0.

Notable:
UFV saw nine of their 11 shots end up on target in the match, while UNBC saw just one of their three attempts force a save.

Alana Madec's one save shutout is the fifth clean sheet of her career in the UFV goal.

Langston's second half goal was her 12th career Canada West regular season goal, the 11th most by a single player in program history.

Up Next:
UFV now gets set for their home opening weekend next Friday and Saturday at Rotary Stadium. The Cascades women's soccer team will face UBC on Friday at 5:30pm before taking on Thompson Rivers on Saturday at 5:30pm.
