Coming off a pair of weekend wins at College of the Rockies, the Cascades women's squad looks to continue its momentum at Camosun. Their lineup will be bolstered by the return to health of libero
Cassidy King and middle
Keira Fisher – both were sidelined last weekend.
The Chargers, for their part, have bounced back in a big way after a 2017-18 season which saw them finish last in the PACWEST with a 1-23 record. Through two weeks, they've already exceeded that win total.
"I thought Camosun was a good team last year, but their record didn't show it," UFV head coach
Mike Gilray said. "They were one of their toughest match-ups. They have a great coach in Brent Hall, and he's done some really good recruiting. They've got some good Island kids who stuck around, and I expect them to be right there in the pack. It's tough to get wins in our league, and they've already doubled their wins from last year. They're going to gain momentum from that."

Amanda Matsui is coming off an outstanding weekend at COTR which saw her average 10.5 kills per match in a pair of UFV victories. The Port Coquitlam, B.C. product was a 2017-18 PACWEST first team all-star and all-rookie teamer, and she currently ranks sixth in the conference in total offence (3.36 points/set). On the other side of the net, sophomore outside hitter
Rayelle Zacharuk has emerged as a dynamic attacking option for the Chargers. She's second in PACWEST in kills (3.00/set) and third in total offence (3.73 points/set).

Last week, the Cascades twice got to the brink of earning their initial win of the campaign, only to fall to COTR in five sets on both Friday and Saturday. They face a tough test this weekend, as the four-time defending PACWEST champion Chargers are standing in their way. They'll be a motivated bunch, too, as they're coming off a pair of home losses to the Douglas Royals.
"In some ways, I think the pressure is good," said Cascades head coach
Kyle Donen, looking ahead to the challenge his team faces this weekend. "We've actually played better when the pressure is on, it's about finding a way to have that mindset from the beginning of matches. We haven't grabbed a win yet, but we know we're capable of getting there – I think we've lost nine sets by two points."

Matt Whittall had a great performance last Friday at COTR, racking up 16 kills on 31 swings. He's cracked the PACWEST top-15 rankings for kills, averaging 2.06 per set (14th overall). The Chargers, meanwhile, have gotten some incredibly dynamic play from Brazilian outside hitter
Vitor Periera. The third-year player leads the conference in both kills (4.13/set) and total offence (4.67 points/set) at this early stage of the season.
