Amanda Matsui of the UFV Cascades has been named the PACWEST women's volleyball athlete of the week.
The sophomore left side from Port Coquitlam, B.C. was honoured after leading the Cascades to a weekend split against the No. 2-ranked team in the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association, the Douglas Royals.
On Friday, the Cascades
prevailed in four sets in Abbotsford, and on Saturday in New Westminster, they had two match points in the fifth set only to watch the Royals
rally to win 18-16. Matsui was instrumental both nights – on Friday, she racked up 20 kills with six digs and three aces, and on Saturday she posted 21 kills, 17 digs and two aces.
For the season, Matsui ranks second in the PACWEST in kills (2.75.set), 12th in aces (0.46/set), 11th in digs (2.21/set) and third in total offence (3.36 points/set).
The CCAA No. 11-ranked Cascades are on a bye this week and return to action at home Nov. 16-17 vs. the Capilano Blues.
