The Cascades suffered a setback last Saturday,
falling in four sets on the road to the Capilano Blues, and subsequently dropped one spot in
the CCAA national rankings to No. 7. They look to get back on track this weekend as they take on a Douglas Royals squad which is directly behind them in the PACWEST standings and looking to close the gap.
"After the win last Friday I think we walked in (on Saturday) just assuming we were going to beat Cap," UFV setter
Kara Williams said. "In the PACWEST, anybody can win, it's so close between all the teams. We learned a lesson that we can't underestimate anyone in our league. Anyone can have the game of their lives.
"Understanding that helps us focus more on what we're doing on our side, and we know the things that contributed to the loss. We're focusing on those things in practice – serving is a big one."
Players to watch: Cascades left side
Kristen McBride is in the midst of a strong sophomore campaign. The Mission, B.C. product ranks 19th in the conference in kills (1.75/set), highlighted by last Friday's season-high 17 kills
in the win over Capilano. She's also a proficient defender – she recently had a run of three straight games with double-digit digs, and ranks 13th in the PACWEST (2.44/set) in that department. For the Royals, fourth-year middle
Olivia Cesaretti is a key presence – she's the conference's runaway leader in blocks (0.85/set), and she's 10th in aces (0.41/set).
