THE MATCH-UP
The Cascades hold a one-game lead over the Blues in the battle for playoff seeding, so Friday's match is crucial to say the least. Capilano has taken two of three from UFV this season – the Cascades were
victorious at home on Nov. 8, but the Blues battled back to
split that weekend series and then
knocked off UFV in North Vancouver on Nov. 29.
RECENT FORM
The Cascades have dropped five straight decisions, including
last weekend's sweep on the road at Camosun. The Blues opened 2020 by losing three of four, but righted themselves with a pair of three-set wins over Columbia Bible College last week.
PLAYERS TO WATCH
Cassidy King, UFV – In addition to her physical ability, the fifth-year libero from North Delta, B.C. brings great intelligence, experience and game-plan execution to the Cascades. One UFV's team captains, King averages 1.70 digs per set.
Kelsey Towers, Capilano – A PACWEST all-rookie selection last season, sophomore setter Towers keeps the Blues' hitters well-fed, averaging 7.09 assists per set.
QUOTABLE
"Last Saturday's game was tough for us, because we felt we weren't playing to our potential. . . . It was more mental than physical. We had a lot to process after the weekend, and we want to be even more competitive in our practices so we're more prepared for the games."
– UFV sophomore left side Kristen McBride, on her team's collective mindset as they look to get back in the win column
"They're scrappy on defence – they're very good in that area. Going against them, we need to elevate our level of defence to match up, and then find ways to score and beat their defence."
– McBride, on the challenges posed by the Blues
